Happy Hump Day!

Life is strange. I mean, it’s everything we make it.

How we’ve ended up over the years, is just about a series of choices. Bad, and good. And let’s face it, most of the choices we make are somewhat questionable. I know that’s true in my life. The good news is, as long as you are still breathing, you still have the opportunity to make good choices.

I’m playing more music today than ever before. Probably because I’ve put myself in a position to do so. Here’s a rule: One of the steps to breaking a bad habit is to replace it with another. Something healthy. That helps you grow. Not detracts from it. The best part is, I’m enjoying every moment. I’ve made the choice to put myself in situations that will help me grow. Spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally and musically. It’s all a choice.

I’ve realized that it’s super easy to do the same old things the same old ways and think that it’s just “normal”. Example: I was bowling on Sunday evening, and I was interacting with a few people that I’ve known for many years. The way they interacted with each other and the way they interacted with everyone else, showed me that they have lived a certain way, for so long, that their interactions had become normal. Predicable. Unhealthy. But to them, it was a very normal way of life. They are comfortable with their behaviors. Or maybe they aren’t. They just don’t know any better. Their behavior resonated with me. Same with those that I interact with during the week. Same sort of thing. The same old stuff, the same old way. No growth. Just moving through each day. It’s like a hamster on a wheel. Round and round she goes. It seems to never end. I wonder if anyone looks back and wonders what could have been. Or if they ever look in the mirror and wonder if there is a better life to be had. Most don’t. But some do.

I get bored quickly. I want excitement. I want to strive for things that seem out of reach. Not to conquer what I’m after. But to know that if I work hard enough, the result will be a better version of me. And that’s really the key. How hard is a person willing to work to change their situation. How much effort do we put into ourselves? Meaning: How much effort do we put into ourselves to become the best representation of who we were created to be.

It will always be your (my) choice. I know that I can take a step or two backwards. But I also know that I always take three or four steps forward. Which is going in the right direction. It’s not like we don’t screw it up from time to time. It’s what we do after the screw up that matters.

Well, I’m about to board my flight.

Think about what I said. The choices you (and I) make matter. Those choices end up becoming our identity. What do you want your identity to look like? The choice will always be yours.

Have a wonderful day!
